Hey Guys!!

The new website is now live!!!  We’ve created a new hosting account on Bluehost and moved the “under construction” files to the new server.  Ron Diamond switched the domain to point to the new server last Friday.  Tonight I “fixed” all of the temporary URL links (that were needed while under construction).  You should now have access to everything on the site by accessing https://www.sky-vu.org.

A couple of things to make you all aware of:

  • The new site has 3 types of access; (1) visitor, (2) member and (3) administratorVisitors do not require any kind of login…anyone can see the content.  If you are a club member, you should have been emailed a login username and password.  Members are granted “member” status and can view the “Members Only Information” pages and can post messages (like this one) as well as comment on the posts of others.  Note that the “Membership” menu (at the top of every page) changes once you are logged in (there are some additional sub-menu items available to club members).  Administrators can modify any site content.  Currently only Ron Diamond, Bill Smith and myself have admin privileges.  Feel free to contact one of us if you see something that needs to be changed, or if you have any feedback or constructive criticisms (or kudos…we like those, too).
  • Most of the site is fairly intuitive.  There are a couple of things that may not be.  There’s a lot of information under the “Membership / Members Only Information” menu.  Once you navigate to that page you will find the content is organized into “tabs” along the top of the page.  I suggest that you explore the links under those tabs to see the breadth of data in there…it’s fairly expansive.  Also notice that we’ve added an event calendar and an interactive member map.
  • Members can now manage their own user profile, complete with a “forgotten password” link on the login page. You can now change anything in your user profile yourself (except for your username).
  • The club has a private Facebook page, but many of our members don’t use it.  This message area is intended to provide a place for members to post messages, pictures, files and classified ads to be shared with other members.
  • The site scales very nicely across desktop, tablet and mobile phone platforms.  There are a couple of tables that might stretch beyond the width of a mobile phone in portrait orientation, but some of that could not be avoided.

I hope you enjoy the new site, and that you find it useful and easy to navigate. Thanks for checking it out!
