Pilot Requirements
Initial Qualifications:
All Sky-Vu members must hold a private pilot certificate or better along with a current medical (or provide copies of the appropriate BasicMed documentation). Members must meet the club’s and the insurer’s minimum experience requirements (see below), and they must receive a check-out and/or endorsement by a club-approved flight instructor for each club-owned aircraft they wish to fly. Some of our aircraft have additional requirements for initial qualifications; see below for those details.
Ongoing Currency Requirements:
To maintain currency in club aircraft, members must annually receive a minimum of one hour of dual instruction with a certified flight instructor (this can be accomplished in any SEL or higher aircraft). Pilots must also satisfy minimum currency requirements for our Cirrus aircraft; see the additional aircraft-specific pilot requirements below:
Note that once a Sky-Vu member has been checked out in a particular aircraft by a club-approved instructor, the member may receive dual instruction from any certified flight instructor to meet the additional requirements specified below.
Common Requirements:
In order for a member to act as PIC in any Sky-Vu aircraft (per FAA rules, club rules and/or insurance requirements), the member must:
- Possess a current private, commercial or airline transport pilot certificate,
- Hold a current third class (or higher) medical certificate, or provide appropriate BasicMed documentation,
- Satisfy the FAA’s flight review requirements per FAR §61.56.
- Have previously received an initial check-out and endorsement from a club-approved, certificated flight instructor in the Sky-Vu Flyers aircraft to be flown as PIC,
- Have completed one (1) hour of dual flight instruction with a certificated flight instructor within the prior 12 months.
In addition to these common requirements, the member must also satisfy the aircraft-specific requirements as defined below for each aircraft:
The following initial requirements must be met for a Sky-Vu member to act as PIC in N182SV:
Initial Requirements:

- Have at least the following logged pilot time in Cessna 182 aircraft prior to acting as pilot in command:
- Ten (10) hours if member has less than 100 hours of total logged flight time or,
- Five (5) hours if member has 100 hours or more of total logged flight time.
- Have at least the following logged pilot time in Cessna 182 aircraft prior to acting as pilot in command:
Ongoing Currency Requirements (Effective 6/1/22):

- Members must log at least two (2) hours of PIC time in Cessna 182S or 182T in the preceding 180 days (not 6 calendar months, but specifically 180 days), or
- Take and pass a currency check-out in the insured aircraft and obtain written approval from a Certificated Flight Instructor in the preceding 45 days.
The following initial requirements must be met for a Sky-Vu member to act as PIC in N721ZA:
Initial Requirements:

- Have at least the following logged pilot time in Cessna 182 aircraft prior to acting as pilot in command.
- Ten (10) hours if member has less than 100 hours of total logged flight time, or
- Five (5) hours if member has 100 hours or more of total flight time.
- Have at least the following logged pilot time in Cessna 182 aircraft prior to acting as pilot in command.

- The member must complete to VFR standards a computer-based ground training course for the Garmin G1000 that is accepted by the club and/or insurer unless the member has 25 or more hours logged in a G1000 equipped aircraft. In that case, the Club Approved Instructor (CAI) may waive the requirements to complete the computer-based ground course.
- The following courses are approved by the club / insurance company;
- ASA “The Complete G1000 Course” (available to Sky-Vu members at no cost)
- Sporty’s “Garmin G1000 Checkout Course”
- King Schools “Flying the Garmin G1000”
- The following courses are approved by the club / insurance company;
- The member must complete to VFR standards a computer-based ground training course for the Garmin G1000 that is accepted by the club and/or insurer unless the member has 25 or more hours logged in a G1000 equipped aircraft. In that case, the Club Approved Instructor (CAI) may waive the requirements to complete the computer-based ground course.

- Members must log at least two (2) hours of PIC time in Cessna 182S or 182T in the preceding 180 days (not 6 calendar months, but specifically 180 days), or
- Take and pass a currency check-out in the insured aircraft and obtain written approval from a Certificated Flight Instructor in the preceding 45 days.
The following initial and ongoing currency requirements must be met for a Sky-Vu member to act as PIC in N969PG:
Initial Requirements:

- Have at least 100 hours of total logged flight time or at least 50 hours logged flight time in Cirrus SR20 or SR22, and
- Have at least five (5) hours logged PIC time in Cirrus SR20 or SR22 , and
- Successfully complete the Sky-Vu/Cirrus Transition Training Syllabus with a Sky-Vu approved Cirrus flight instructor (VFR Syllabus for VFR pilots, IFR Syllabus for IFR pilots), or demonstrate equivalent training/experience, and
- Successfully complete the online Cirrus CAPS Training Course and send the completion certificate to the club Safety Officer.

- Members must log at least two (2) hours of PIC time in the Cirrus SR20 or SR22 in the preceding 180 days (not 6 calendar months, but specifically 180 days), or
- Take and pass a currency check-out in the insured aircraft and obtain written approval from a Certificated Flight Instructor in the preceding 45 days

- Have at least five (5) hours logged pilot time in Cirrus SR22, and
- Successfully complete the Sky-Vu/Cirrus Transition Training Syllabus with a Sky-Vu approved Cirrus flight instructor (VFR Syllabus for VFR pilots, IFR Syllabus for IFR pilots), or demonstrate equivalent training/experience, and
- Successfully complete the online Cirrus CAPS Training Course and send the completion certificate to the club Safety Officer.
